What is a Class A CDL?
Class A commercial driver’s licenses allow drivers to operate any combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more if the vehicle(s) being towed have a GVWR of more than 10,000 pounds. Vehicles in this class include: vehicles such as:
- Tractor trailer
- Truck and trailer combinations
- Tractor trailer buses
If you hold a Class A license and you have the correct endorsements, CDL Class A drivers may also operate vehicles listed in Class B.
About Our CDL Class A Course
CDL Class A truck driving instruction is a comprehensive process consisting of 40 hours of classroom sessions and 120 hours of range and behind the wheel lessons.
Students learn the information and skills necessary to safely and courteously operate a tractor trailer on today’s busy roads.
2020 Driving School provides its Class A commercial driver training at our Fredericksburg, VA headquarters, with range and behind the wheel instruction completed nearby.
CDL Class A Training Schedule
Full-time Class A training is provided Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for three weeks.
Part-time Class A training is provided Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for seven weeks.
Please note: The timely completion of each student’s CDL Class A instruction is one of our top priorities. The school aims to complete the instruction in a reasonable time, however, it cannot be responsible for delays caused by mechanical failure, unsafe driving conditions due to inclement whether, or any other unforeseen reasons over which it has no control.
Students are asked to give their instructor as much advance notice as possible for any scheduling conflicts they may have.

- Pre-trip inspection

- Proper use of clutch and gears
- Coupling and uncoupling
Behind the Wheel Instruction Includes:
- On the Road Driving: Shifting of a 10-speed transmission, up-shifting, down-shifting, double-clutching, and progressive shifting. Left turns, right turns, X-way driving, urban driving, simulated up-grade, down-grade, emergency stop-start, curves, stop and thru intersections.
- On-Freeway and Highway Driving: Entrance, exit, and lane changes.
